Waruga I
130,00 €
“Waruga I” depicts a traditional stone sarcophagus found in the village of Kema, Sulawesi — the Waruga of Xaverius Dotulung, leader of the Tonsea tribe of Minahasa (1888).
Shaped like a house, the Waruga embodies the idea of “the house where the body becomes dust.” The body inside rests in a fetal position — a gesture of return and renewal.
This drawing, made with pencil on aquarelle paper, is both an observation and a quiet reflection on the cyclical nature of life and memory.
Framed, ready to hang.
